NO PART OF THE COUNTRY WILL SUFFER NEGLECT- FG

The federal government has promised that no part of the country will suffer any neglect owing to its geographical location or political consideration

President Muhammadu Buhari gave the assurance during inauguration and handing over of a shoreline protection and land reclamation project in Ekeremore, Bayelsa state.

The president who was represented by Sen. Heineken Lokpobiri, the Minister of state, Agric and Rural Development warned that no community will benefit from government’s new project if they failed to protect the existing ones.

He expressed concern over the past government project being destroyed by the same befitting people who ought to cherish and protect it. He said that such acts could prevent growth and development in communities. He therefore advised beneficiaries of government intervention projects to ensure their maintenance and sustainability.

Sen. Lokpobiri appealed to others in erosion prone areas to be patient as the government could not do all of the projects at the same time. He explained that the Aleibiri Shoreline project was one of the 16 Ecological intervention projects which were approved in 2017 for communities facing erosion and environmental degradation challenges.

Earlier in her welcome address the permanent Secretary of Ecological Fund Office, Dr. Habiba Lawal who was represented by the Director of Drought and Desertification Control (DDC) Alhaji. Yusuf Anddy commended the cordial relationship that existed between the Contractor, Consultant and the people of Aleibiri Community.

Dr, Lawal expressed confidence that the intervention project would bring relief to the people and improve their socio-economic well-being as well. She advised the benefitting community to take ownership and jealously guard the project.

Chief Mike Dimiela community leader who spoke on behalf of the people promised that no government project will be vandalized under his watch, he assured that the project would be maintained and sustained.
