FG HANDS OVER PROJECTS TO DAMATURU
AND NGURU COMMUNITIES
The Federal Government has completed and handed over two projects to Damaturu and Nguru communities in Yobe state. The completed projects were Damaturu – Baimari – Gashua road and Erosion and Flood control wastes at Nguru local government area, all in Yobe state were executed by the Ecological Fund Office, the presidency.
Speaking during the commissioning and handing over ceremony, the President Muhammadu Buhari represented by Hon. Minister, Baba Shehuri, noted that the projects were in keeping with present administration’s promise that no part of the country will suffer any neglect owing to its geographical location of political consideration.
While thanking the host communities for their cooperation with the contractors, he urged them to see the projects as theirs, guard them jealously and prevent dumping of refuse in constructed drainage channels.
Earlier in her welcome address, Permanent Secretary Ecological Fund Office, Dr. Habiba Lawal represented by Mr. Auwal Sanni, Deputy Director, Soil Erosion and Flood Control department, noted that the projects were initiated through requests from Senators Bukar Abba Ibrahim and Ahmed Lawan to arrest the continuous erosion and flood menace in Damaturu – Baimari – Gashua road as well as Nguru local government area to prevent further environmental degradation, loss of lives and properties.
Dr. Lawal commended the efforts of the contractors for timely completion of the projects and called on the communities to take ownership of the project to ensure its came and sustainability. The representatives of the Executive Governor of Yobe State, Engr. Jibrin Kotoni the state commissioner for Environment, while expressing gratitude to the Federal Government, pleaded with the Ecological Fund Office to consider other numerous requests earlier made by Yobe State for intervention in other critical erosion sites. He however expressed optimism that the request would receive attention.
The occasion was attended by dignitaries including HRH, the Emir of Nguru represented by Waziri Aminam, the district head of Nigeria and the representative of Senator Ahmed Lawal, Engr. Ahmad Amshi.
