EPO: PERM SEC INAUGURATES THE PMS AND FOI COMMITTEES, CHARGE MEMBERS TO MEET EXPECTATIONS

The Permanent Secretary, Ecological Project Office (EPO), Malam Shehu Ibrahim, mni has inaugurated the EPO Performance Management Systems ( PMS) Core team and the Freedom of Information (FOI) Committees with the charge to both committees to work assiduously in meeting the onerous task of their mandates.

Speaking during the inauguration of the 15-member PMS Core Team, held on Monday, 6th March, 2023, at the Conference Hall of EPO. The Perm Sec noted that the PMS is one of the six priority areas of the Federal Civil Service Strategic Implementation Plan (FCSSIP 25), initiated by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation , Dr Folashade Yemi-Esan is to reposition the Federal Civil Service for better service delivery and increased performance of officers in the workplace.

He explained that the core areas of focus in the implementation of the policy is on developing the Key Result Areas (KRAs), Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and different layers of supervision which he said are the key deliverables of the policy drive.,

Malam Shehu stated that, “although the assignment is very critical and challenging, I trust the choice of the team that you will deliver.on this assignment”. According to him, “the Federal Civil Service is going through a lot of reforms and one of the areas of the reform is the FCSSIP”, adding that the subsequent review of FCSSIP 2017-2020 birthed the FCSSIP 2021-2025 which is to be implemented by all the MDAs.

He urged the team to break down all the intricacies involved in the PMS to the understanding of staff to ensure its proper implementation and assured that EPO will liaise with the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation in critical areas of the implementation.

The Director, Special Duties in the office, Mr Yakubu Habu, in his opening remarks stated that the PMS is a tool for appraisal of employees’performance and that the core team being the foot soldiers in the policy implementation are very important for the overall success of the implementation process.

Similarly, the Permanent Secretary on behalf of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, also inaugurated a 7- member committee on the Freedom of Information (FOI). He said the committee is expected to work in line with the requirements and guidelines produced by the Federal Ministry of Justice on the implementation of the Act

Malam Ibrahim further stated that the passage of the then bill into law, now the Freedom of Information Act, 2011, had given the general public the right to ask questions and demand information from Public offices including the MDAs

The Permanent Secretary therefore admonished the committee to take the assignment seriously, exercise caution and due diligence in the discharge of the assignment. .

In their separate remarks, Chairperson of the FOI committee, Deputy Director, Press and Public Relations, Mrs Eno Olotu and Assistant Director, Pollution Control Department, Mrs Eme Cosmos for the PMS Core Team, assured the Permanent Secretary that the committees will take the assignment with utmost commitment and deliver on the mandates.
