ECOLOGICAL FUND OFFICE ADDRESSES EROSION AND FLOOD MENACE IN ONDO
The Ecological Fund Office (EFO), in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) had addressed the effects of erosion and flood menace in Akko and Ondo Township,Ondo State.
Commissioning and handing over the intervention project, the Honorable Minister of state, Niger Delta Affairs, Sen.Omotayo Alasoadura said that the project was one of the eleven ecological intervention projects approved by Mr. President for the third quarter 2017 to address the devastating effects of erosion and flood in the community, adding that the completion of the project underscored the federal government’s concerted effort and sincerity of purpose in tackling problems of its citizens and making life more meaningful for the people.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Ecological Fund Office, Dr.Habiba Lawal represented by a director in the Soil Erosion and Flood, Mr. Mathias Eluma, said that the project was initiated through a request by the Ondo Town Community Development Union for urgent intervention forwarded to the Office to arrest the continuous erosion and flood menace in the community.
According to her, the project was to achieve the dual purpose of enabling the host community to take over and exercise ownership by ensuring its sustainability adding that the resources which the Federal Government had committed must not be allowed to waste.
In his speech, the paramount ruler of Ondo Kingdom,Oba Victor Kiladejo said that before the intervention ,most houses in the area were already destroyed by erosion, he acknowledged that with the projects, the perennial problems of erosion and flood had been tackled in the community. Oba Victor expressed his appreciation to the Federal and State government as well as Ecological Fund Office (EFO) for ensuring that the project commenced and completed on schedule.
